More bad press in the run toward Crufts

In today's Times we are given the latest edict on the state of purebred dogs in the UK by a very accomplished veteran breeder who is also a veterinarian and geneticist....no, wait.....its just Jemima Harrison again, assuming those roles plus that of martyr.

Today's installment, seen here at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article5817598.ece is more of the same from the filmmaker who continues to wage war on the world of show dogs.

I am so saddened and frustrated that the vast majority of responsible, dedicated and health-concious breeders of show dogs here in Britain are being dragged onto a pedestal and publicly berated by someone who no one had heard of until last August. I am even more angry that the media is so happy to allow such distorted and unbalanced reporting take place as long as it is pushes all the right dramatic buttons.

I hope to start a new campaign in which the faces, stories and views of breeders across the UK will be given a chance to be seen by a larger audience. Stay tuned...

  2. er ... I think you are missing the point here somewhat - no-one is berating GOOD breeders, just bad ones!! Did you actually see the documentary? Did you not see a whole ring-ful of German Shepherds who could hardly walk? Not just a one-in-a-thousand freak, but a WHOLE ring-ful, at a show, and one of them WON!! Why are good breeders getting so defensive? Surely by making sure only well-bred puppies (i.e. where the parents have had all the relevant health tests done and are not mated to close relatives) can be KC registered gives good breeders the kudos they deserve - and the public then know that buying a KC registered pup actually means something.

  3. I totally agree with mandywolves above. Just what is it that the good breeders are so worried about??? If they are such good breeders than they should have nothing to be concerned about. Everyone is coming across as like they have something to hide by being so upset about it.
If you really thought you were all such good breeders then you would be wanting the KC to put something into action that kicked out the bad ones? In the olympics they have drugs tests to scrub out the cheats, I don't see all the athletes kicking off about how "unfair" it is... if they don't do drugs then it does not matter! I don't see how this is any different.
